Brief History:
The Wright-Dunbar Area Credit Union, Inc. is a faith-based financial institution owned by its members who live, work and worship in the metropolitan Dayton area. The late Reverend Perry E. Henderson, Sr. founded the credit union as Corinthian Baptist Credit Union in April 1955. Reverend Henderson established the credit union because he believed in the Booker T. Washington philosophy of self-help and Christian stewardship.
Credit union was incorporated with 13 charter members. Mr. James Dickerson became the first treasurer/ manager of the credit union and operated out of his home until his death. Mr. Phillip R. Warden took over the leadership of the credit union with the help of a few other members. Under this his leadership the credit union continued to grow and became automated.
In November 1997, the Corinthian Baptist Credit Union merged with the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church credit union to give added opportunity for growth and development. The credit union continued to grow.
In February 1998, the name was changed from Corinthian Baptist Credit Union to the Wright-Dunbar Area Credit Union. This name was given to us by our pastor the Reverend Dr. P.E. Henderson Jr. This name change was to reflect the expanded membership including Macedonia Second Missionary Baptist Church, Solid Rock Baptist Church, New Commandment Missionary Baptist Church, Highlight Temple Baptist Church and the United Missionary Baptist Church. This makes the Wright-Dunbar Area Credit Union the oldest and the largest black-owned and operated financial institution in the Dayton area.
Our philosophy is “People Helping People” and our mission is to provide the best possible service to our members in a timely and professional manner.
